Visual Identity

Primer Plano is a design exercise that reinterprets the traditional language of print journalism through a contemporary lens, built around a curated selection of auteur cinema content.

Challenge

The challenge was to design a biweekly publication focused on film, television, and theatre, capable of organizing long-form articles, reviews, cultural references, marginal notes, highlights, and curated recommendations within a cohesive visual system. The publication needed to balance dense editorial content with moments of visual pause, creating a reading experience that felt structured and informative without becoming rigid or overwhelming.

Solution

I developed a contemporary editorial system built around a flexible grid, strong typographic hierarchy, and multiple layers of reading.

Long-form articles are supported by marginal notes, highlights, and short informational sections, allowing readers to move through the content in different ways. The grid provides consistency across the publication while remaining flexible enough to create variation, visual rhythm, and emphasis between pages.
